Micromechanical and Macroscopic Modeling

The scientific interests of the department Micromechanical and Macroscopic Modeling (MMM) of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS) at the Ruhr University Bochum focus on predicting microstructure-property-relationships that link macroscopic mechanical properties of materials, like strength, hardness, and fracture toughness, to the fundamental aspects of electronic and atomistic structure of solids and the microstructure of materials. This is accomplished by employing the methods of computational materials science and multiscale modeling, as well as novel data-oriented approaches and machine learning.
